Angel City FC makes name official. Add more Founding Investors, name front office staff

We see you, Kim McCauley!

Last night, the Los Angeles NWSL expansion team made its name officially official. Kevin Baxtor reported the news late last night and founding investor Natalie Portman made the announcement on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Although, we must correct Portman. The Seattle Storm, 2020 WNBA champions, are the first professional team owned by an all-woman ownership team. The WNBA’s Atlanta Dream team also has an all-woman ownership group.

You can now set nightmares of your favorite player leaving your favorite club to a name: Angel City Football Club. For those on the left coast and elsewhere ready to pledge you allegiance, the ACFC also debuted their official merch.

“We could not be more pleased to have reached this exciting milestone of officially joining the league and introducing the world to Angel City Football Club,” said Uhrman, ACFC founder and president.

Commissioner Lisa Baird officially welcomed the team formerly with no (official) name to the longest-running domestic women’s soccer league.

“On behalf of the NWSL and our member clubs, we are thrilled to officially welcome Angel City Football Club, and this exciting and committed ownership group, to the league,” said Baird in the team release. “The soccer community in Southern California is filled with passionate fans of the game and I can’t wait to see them rally around their own team and help us continue to grow the NWSL.”

But wait, there is more!

The pockets of ACFC just got deeper and more start-studded. Los Angeles Sparks forward and 2020 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year Candance Parker and her daughter Lailaa, tennis legend Billie Jean King, and retired ski legend Lindsey Vonn and fiancé PK Subban are officially on board.

“We need everyone to invest in women’s sports and Ilana and I are proud to stand with the Angel City FC ownership group and help make new history in Southern California sports,” said King in the press release.

“Angel City’s mission to make an impact on and off-the field, and to provide an opportunity to some of the best professional female athletes in the world to play on a stage as powerful as Los Angeles, sends a strong message to young girls in the community and beyond.”

Kim McCauley joins ACFC Staff

In addition to the official club name and new investors, ACFC also named front office and operations staff. We might be biased, but the best hire is obviously Kim McCauley as Director of Recruitment and Analytics. McCauley worked as a soccer reporter and analyst at VOX Media for 11 years prior to her new role.

“Everyone is extremely committed to making sure that our club provides players with the best possible experience. I love that our leadership is willing to consider any ideas to make Angel City the best option for players to advance in their careers,” McCauley told AllforXI.

“They don’t want to compromise when it comes to facilities or off the field support for the athletes, and that’s what attracted me to the club.”

At ACFC, McCauley will be tasked with building player analysis models and databases to help build the inaugural roster and coaching staff. We send our heartfelt congrats to Kim and wish her best of luck with Angel City FC!
