The big day is here. After four long years, a three week tournament span of summer has come and gone and we have our two teams meeting in the World Cup final.
The number one FIFA ranked team in the world will take on the European Champions. United States face off against the Netherlands today and no matter the outcome, history will be made.
Should the United States win, they will be the only team to ever win four World Cups, it’d be a symbol of dominance unlike any other ever seen in the highest stage of Women’s Soccer - and it would be done in what many consider to be the most competitive World Cup to date. The USWNT have shown who they are on the biggest stage - their goal scoring prowess, their vibrant celebrations, their defense, their composure, their formations, their squad depth, and more. A failure to lift the cup would be in short, underwhelming.
If Netherlands win this final, it will be the first World Cup victory for the country. The Dutch enter this match on short rest and extended minutes. They’ve also played notable teams throughout the tournament, and have shown they have the ability to win games even if they have dig themselves out. Could they have saved their best for the final?
