Into the knockout rounds we go!

First match of the day features Germany taking on Nigeria. These two storied teams will try and keep their World Cup hopes alive after having very different roads into the round of 16.

Germany swept their group competitions winning all three games, patiently awaiting their next opponent. While Nigeria had two losses out of three in their group, and won their second match with help from an own goal. Nigeria’s Super Falcons needed a bit of extra luck from other group matches to insure they advanced as well.

Germany enters the match as favorites on the day with the better tournament record, but football’s luck appears to be on Nigeria’s side. And at this stage in the tournament, you need a bit of both to keep advancing.

Second match of the day will see Norway take on Australia in a match up that might provide some thrills. Both teams enter this match with similar records, with 2 wins and a loss a piece. Australia’s Sam Kerr enters the match on a tear having scored 5 goals over three matches. While Norway has several names at their scorer’s table, including Caroline Graham Hansen. The match could come down to a battle of backlines as both will have challenging top lines to deal with.
