Last call for Team Chaos.
Group C rounds out their group stage with a pair of final matches with Australia, Italy, Brazil, and Jamaica all playing today. Advancement and positioning are at state for each team.
There are two matches taking place in the afternoon today, and here are a few things you can look out for during today’s games.
Italy is taking on Brazil and enter the match with the most points in the group with 6. Italy’s dominant 5-0 win over Jamaica has them in position for advancing and with Brazil. Brazil enters this match with 3 points on the group table after dropping a 2 goal lead against Australia last week. The Brazilian superstar, Marta, was able to play one half during that match after trying to play through a thigh injury this World Cup.
Jamaica will face off against Australia and the Reggae Girlz enter this match goalless and pointless in their first ever World Cup appearance. Australia is riding their momentum of last week’s win over Brazil where they played from behind to win 3-2, and sit with 3 points in the group table. A dominant win over Jamaica would ensure advancement into the round of 16 for the Matildas, but their poor defense has allowed every team they’ve faced to make a game of it on match days.
Will Jamaica do the same and shock Australia? With advancement looking bleak for the Reggae Girlz, they’re still playing for something bigger here, and will want to show the world who they are before possibly bowing out.
