Matchday 4 rounds out Group D and introduces Group E. Yesterday’s matches provided us with an upset as Italy beat Australia and Brazil’s Cristiane netted the tournament’s first hat-trick.

Here’s what’s on tap for today.

Argentina takes on Japan for the first game of the day. Both teams open up their torment today but Japan heads into the match as favorites with a combination of a youth movement and prior World Cup history and experience on their side. Nadeshiko captain Saki Kumagai will likely have an impact this game on the backline and Kumi Yokoyama will anchor the top line. Argentina has an uphill battle in Group D, but will want to make an impression in their first game, they might be able to do just that with Estefania Banini as the face of the team’s creativity.

Canada faces off against Cameroon to close out the day. Canada is the top ranked team of Group E at number 4. Veteran goal scorer Christine Sinclair (Portland Thorns FC) is sitting on the All-Time goal scoring record and could see a goal or two in this game, with Jessie Flemming (UCLA) causing headaches on the pitch for defenders as well. Followers of NWSL will be familiar with Cameroon’s Estelle Johnson (Sky Blue FC) and Michaela Abam, who played briefly with Sky Blue FC last season.
